4 Days Onboard World’s Largest Cruise Ship, Legend of the Seas

I had traveled by several means of transportation, but the only boat I had ever been on was a ferry in Mombasa, Kenya. While I had seen cruise ships on social media and in movies, I couldn’t fathom the sheer size of these vessels until I saw one myself. Glad I took my first cruise with the best, Royal Caribbean. I knew from the moment I stepped onboard the world’s largest cruise ship, Legend of the Seas, that this was going to be a holiday of a lifetime.
It was my first time seeing a ship this big with my eyes, and honestly, I didn’t know where to start. Every direction I turned to had something happening, people exploring the ship, restaurant buzzing, activities underway and incredible spaces that made the ship feel like a floating city. I was very excited; I couldn’t wait to explore every corner.
During the four nights cruise to Europe, the ship departed from Barcelona, Spain and we disembarked in Rome, Civitavecchia. We visited several ports of call, Palma de Mallorca in Spain, La Spezia in Italy, and finally Rome (Civitavecchia), Italy.
First Day Onboard
First day of my trip was spent on exploring the ship from top to bottom to get my bearings. It didn’t feel like a ship at all. Instead, it felt like a floating destination, with distinct neighborhood and endless things to discover. Central Park was one of the highlights, featuring real greenery, garden spaces, and restaurants with patio seating on either side. There were also attractions such as an arcade, a casino, and a nightclub, along with promenades that felt more like city streets than cruise ship corridors. After covering every deck, I had already compiled a list of places I wanted to revisit and realized that four days might not be nearly enough.
Navigating Around the Ship
“How am I going to find my way around this huge ship?” I asked myself. Turns out, I did not get lost even once! Considering the scale of the ship, that was impressive. This goes to show that there is no reason to worry about getting lost on board.
The signage onboard was very clear, so by just paying attention, finding your way around is surprisingly easy. There were elevators in every deck, making moving around quick and convenient. Directory screens all around the ship showed exactly where different restaurants, activities, and facilities were located. Instead of constantly wondering where I was going, I could simply check, follow the signs, and head off to my next adventure.
The Stateroom
We stayed in the ocean view balcony stateroom; this room became one of my top pick parts of the entire cruise. There is just something special about having your own private oceanfront space, and the balcony makes every moment onboard Legend of the Seas even more memorable.
After a long day exploring the ship and destinations, my stateroom became the perfect place to relax and recharge. I enjoyed stepping out onto the balcony and watching the endless waves roll by, enjoying the fresh sea air, witnessing the sunset or just simply taking a quiet moment for myself.
The room was spacious, comfortable, and thoughtfully designed. It featured two twin beds that could convert into a royal king bed, a sofa, flat-screen TV, a mini safe and a hairdryer. The stateroom made great use of the space with plenty of storage for my clothes and other belongings. There were two closets for hanging space and a dressing table with more drawers than I ended up using.
After leaving to start my adventure each morning, our stateroom attendant Maryanne cleaned the room and left fresh towels and sometimes a creatively folded towel animal.
One feature I especially appreciated was the blackout curtains that blocked out the light completely, making it easy to enjoy a proper night’s sleep and wake up feeling refreshed for another day of adventure at sea.
My first Adventure
It was finally time to try one of the attractions I had been looking forward to the most, the Frightening Bolt, located in the Category 6 waterpark. Standing at 46 feet (14 meters), it is the tallest drop slide at sea, onboard the Legend of the Seas.
I thought I was brave enough to take on the challenge until I watched other people screaming at the top of their lungs as they disappeared down the slide. The experience begins inside a capsule, where you stand anxiously waiting as the door closes around you. Then, without any warning, the floor suddenly drops away beneath your feet, sending you plunging straight down.
At that moment, I wasn’t feeling quite as courageous. Instead, I decided to warm up on the Storm Chasers slides first while I worked up the nerve. After plenty of hesitation, I finally took a deep breath, stepped into the capsule, and went for it. The adrenaline rush was incredible, and I was so glad that I had pushed past my fear and conquered the challenge.
After the excitement, I spent some time swimming and relaxing by the pools. It was a perfect opportunity to slow down, take in the beautiful atmosphere, and simply enjoy being onboard. With so many activities to choose from, every day felt like a new opportunity to try something different, and this was an adventure I would remember.
Dining
I ate at Windjammer on most days because there was always such a wide variety to choose from. I also explored Aqua Dome Market, grabbed pizzas in the evenings from Sorrento’s and tried the mouthwatering burgers at basecamp.
Breakfast was often at Pearl Café, which became one of my favorite ways to start the day. We also booked dinner at the main Dining with the team; this was an amazing opportunity to sit together and talk about everything we had experienced during the day.
One of the things I appreciated most was how easy it was to make every meal feel different. From casual bites between activities to relaxed breakfasts and longer dinners with the team, there was always something new to discover. The variety meant that dining became part of the experience itself, giving us plenty of opportunities to try something different while sharing stories and reflecting on the highlights of each day onboard.
AquaDome
The AquaDome quickly became one of the most impressive venues onboard. During the day, the huge glass dome offered incredible ocean views, but at night it transformed into a spectacular entertainment space. The combination of diving, acrobatics, lighting effects and the towering waterfall created a show that felt unlike anything I’ve seen at sea. Every performance made full use of the venue, with something happening wherever you look.
Absolute Zero
Absolute Zero took traditional ice-skating shows to another level. The skaters showcased incredible skill, effortlessly performing high jumps, spins and acrobatic moves at remarkable speed. What made the show stand out was the use of projections around the rink, which completely changed the atmosphere throughout the performance and made every scene feel immersive and dynamic.
Charlie and the Chocolate Factory
Seeing Charlie and the Chocolate Factory onboard felt like watching a full-scale West End or Broadway production at sea. The colorful sets, costumes, and music brought the story to life, while the cast delivered plenty of memorable moments. Whether you’re familiar with the story or not, it’s an entertaining production that’s easy to get caught up in from start to finish.
What made the experience even more special was the atmosphere inside the theatre. The audience was completely immersed in the magic of the story, with laughter, music, and applause filling the room throughout the performance. It was one of those moments where you could easily forget you were on a cruise ship and simply enjoy the feeling of being part of a live theatrical experience.
Shockwave
One of the most energetic shows on Legend of the Seas was the shockwave. The performance combined diving, aerial acrobatics, artistic swimming, and dance into a fast-paced spectacle that constantly kept the audience’s attention. The blend of music, choreography, and water-based stunts created several jaw-dropping moments and made it one of the standout productions onboard
Fusion
Fusion was a visually stunning ice show inspired by the four elements: fire, water, earth, and wind. The skaters used the entire rink to tell the story through powerful choreography, while lighting effects and music helped bring each element to life. The combination of athleticism and artistry made it much more than a traditional skating performance and one of the highlights of the entertainment lineup.
Shore Excursions
Departing from Barcelona, Spain, gave the journey an exciting start, the experience even more unforgettable, allowing us to explore Barcelona before getting on board – from the beautiful buildings to seeing the amazing architecture of The Basilica of the Sagrada Familia
We visited destinations along the mediterranean, one of our stops was Palma de Mallorca, a beautiful destination where I could immerse myself in history, culture and scenery. After exploring ashore, it was always special to return to Legend of the Seas and know that there was still so much waiting for me onboard.
We also visited La Spezia, and our journey came to an end in Rome, Civitavecchia, Italy, bringing an incredible Mediterranean adventure to a close.
Not Just a Cruise
As the days went by, I started to realize that the experience wasn’t only about the destinations we were visiting. The ship itself was an adventure.
There were moments when I was doing an activity, moments I was enjoying a meal with the team, and quieter moments when I simply stopped to appreciate where I was. Every day brought a different experience.
What I loved most was having the freedom to choose how I wanted to spend each day, whether that meant trying something exciting, enjoying good food, swimming, exploring the ship, or simply relaxing.
Not my last cruise
Legend of the Seas isn’t just a ship that takes you somewhere; it’s a destination, and my first adventure onboard definitely won’t be my last. Looking forward to booking a cruise with Cruises by Holiday Bazaar again!
