The thing to check here is the fare brand, not the route. A Hand Baggage Only fare includes no checked bag, so a bag in the hold is bought separately. Every other brand includes checked baggage, the count and the weight following the cabin. Extra bags are cheapest added online before you check in, and Avios can pay for them there; after check-in it is the airport rate and Avios no longer count. We tell you which brand you are looking at before you pay, because on London the gap between the two is where most of the regret lives.

It flies as oneworld, so a card from another oneworld airline can credit here, and its own programme is The British Airways Club. The published benefit worth knowing: on most routes a Gold or Silver member flying Economy may check two bags of up to 32kg each, and on both tiers that allowance reaches everyone else on the booking.
