Classic Mara Safari
Three nights in the Maasai Mara with the Governors' Camp Collection, flown in on Governors' Aviation. One camp, up to three game drives a day, and nothing else on the diary.
View itineraryKenya is where the safari was invented, and it still sets the standard. In the Maasai Mara the wildebeest herds cross the river lines between July and October. In Amboseli, elephant herds walk against the full height of Kilimanjaro. In Laikipia and Samburu, private conservancies trade crowds for silence and good leopard country.
Then there is the Coast: Diani’s white sand, Watamu’s reef, Lamu’s old stone streets. A short flight from the bush, and a world apart from it.
This is our home ground. We know which camp suits a honeymoon and which suits a seven-year-old, and where to be standing at six in the evening.
The Mara. Open country and big cats. The conservancies bordering the reserve, Naboisho, Mara North and Lemek, allow night drives and walking, and cap the number of tents per acre, so a sighting is yours rather than shared with twenty vehicles.
Amboseli and Tsavo. Elephant country under the mountain. Good for a short first safari, and easy to pair with Diani.
Laikipia and Samburu. Northern Kenya: Grevy’s zebra, reticulated giraffe, riverbed sundowners, and camps run in partnership with the communities that own the land.
The Coast. Watamu for the reef and Mida Creek, Diani for the sand, Lamu for the stone town and the dhows. Bush first, then beach. It is the itinerary we recommend most often.
