Cairo is a nonstop out of Nairobi, and that single fact is why Egypt is the least complicated long journey this desk sells. One flight in, not two, and the rest of the planning is then free to be about the ground.
Which is where it earns its place. On Pharaoh’s Nile Adventure the cruise is boarded on a fixed day and the internal flights up to Upper Egypt have to agree with the international one. Where we can put every sector on the same carrier we do, because then a slipped departure is one conversation rather than three, and whoever is fixing it can see the whole ticket.
Past Egypt, Cairo works as a door. Casablanca and Istanbul sit at either end of the Mediterranean from it, and London, Paris and New York are one stop further, which makes this a sensible second quote on a Europe or North America routing that will not assemble cleanly any other way.
It is a Star Alliance member too, so it sits beside Turkish and Ethiopian on a longer journey, and a Gold card from any of the three is worth handing over before we issue rather than after.

What baggage allowance comes with an EgyptAir ticket out of Nairobi?
Nairobi takes EgyptAir's international table, which counts in pieces. Business carries two checked bags at up to 32kg each. In Economy the number of pieces follows the fare rules, with 23kg on each, and no bag may measure more than 158cm once length, width and height are added together. Cabin baggage is one bag in Economy and two in Business, each up to 8kg and within 118cm, which the airline writes out as 55 plus 40 plus 23. The domestic Egyptian sectors are a separate, smaller table.
Is EgyptAir in an alliance, and can I earn anything?
It is a Star Alliance member, so a card from Turkish, Ethiopian, Lufthansa or Swiss credits here. Its own programme is EGYPTAIR Plus. The benefit worth knowing sits on the baggage page rather than the loyalty one: a Star Alliance Gold card adds one checked piece to the allowance, in Economy and in Business alike, which on a trip with a river cruise at the end of it is the difference between one bag and two. How does an EgyptAir ticket get issued here?
