No Nairobi nonstop: the connection is one we build by hand over Frankfurt, and Zurich is an unusually calm place to change planes.

Where they take you from Nairobi
No nonstop from Nairobi, and no city list the airline publishes from here. The sector to Zurich is a connection we build by hand and issue as one journey.
SWISS does not fly to Nairobi, and it is worth saying that first because its own booking site will happily sell you a Kenyan journey. In its own description it is the airline of Switzerland, serving over a hundred destinations from Zurich and Geneva, part of the Lufthansa Group and a member of Star Alliance. Nairobi is not one of the hundred.
So this is a connection we build by hand. Usually that means Frankfurt, where Lufthansa’s Nairobi nonstop meets the group’s own network, and the second leg is short. It stays one ticket and one alliance from end to end, which is the part that matters on the day the first flight runs late.
Zurich is the reason people ask for this airline by name: an orderly, unhurried sort of airport, the kind where changing planes feels like a pause rather than an ordeal. Geneva is the other Swiss door SWISS flies from, at the far end of the country, for anyone whose Switzerland is the French-speaking half.
Switzerland is not a destination we publish a page for, so these trips are put together to order. Tell us the towns, the dates and whether there is a train involved, and we will price the whole thing rather than just the flying.
Questions people put to us about this airline
Baggage, alliances and how the ticket actually gets issued. The answers come from what the airline itself publishes, and we confirm what applies to your own fare before you pay.
What baggage allowance applies on a SWISS journey from Nairobi?
There is no Nairobi nonstop, so the fare and the operating airlines set this rather than one table. SWISS says as much itself: where another airline markets the longest or most significant part of the journey, that airline's baggage rules may apply to the SWISS sectors too. Its own intercontinental allowance is one bag of 23kg in Economy, two in Premium Economy and two of 32kg in Business, nothing over 158cm, and the Light fares carry none at all. We tell you which rule your ticket falls under before you pay.
Does Star Alliance or Miles & More change anything on this routing?
More than usual, because the journey is assembled out of more than one airline. SWISS flies as Star Alliance and belongs to the Lufthansa Group, and its programme is Miles & More, the same one Lufthansa uses, so both halves of the trip credit to one account. Three status levels sit above the base: Frequent Traveller, which SWISS lists as carrying a higher baggage allowance, then Senator, which adds the Senator and Star Alliance Gold lounges and preferential baggage reclaim, then HON Circle. Give us the number before we issue.
How does a SWISS ticket get issued here?
There is no nonstop, so the first decision is the hub. We usually build it over Frankfurt, put the sensible alternatives beside that and say which one we would take and why, with the connection times written down rather than assumed. The fare and its rules go to you in writing before anything is paid, and the whole journey is issued in Nairobi as one ticket by an IATA-accredited agent, which is what keeps a late first leg the airline's problem rather than yours. How ticketing works here has the rest.

However this journey is routed, the ticket is issued in Nairobi by an IATA-accredited agent: est. 1994, two offices you can walk into, and a person who answers when a connection drops at six in the morning. How ticketing works here (what happens after you ask, and the questions people put to us before they commit) is set out in full on the flights page.
