Who it suits
Royal Caribbean builds the biggest ships at sea, and it builds them for travellers who want the days between ports to be part of the holiday rather than a gap in it. There is a surf simulator, a climbing wall, bumper cars and a zip line strung above the deck. Families do well here. So do groups travelling together who all want something different from the same week.
If your idea of a cruise is a quiet balcony and a long book, say so and we’ll point you at Celebrity or Princess instead.
Where they sail
Two programmes come up most often from Nairobi. In the Mediterranean, Odyssey of the Seas runs Rome round trips through the summer, calling at Santorini, Ephesus, Mykonos and Naples; Legend of the Seas does the same out of Barcelona, by way of Palma de Mallorca, Florence and Rome. In Asia, Spectrum of the Seas sails Tokyo to Shanghai in spring, with a shorter Shanghai round trip that calls at Okinawa. Both are on our special fares.
There is a Caribbean season out of Miami late in the year, and Singapore round trips in January that pair neatly with a few days on land.
