The Louvre Abu Dhabi is best understood from underneath. Jean Nouvel roofed it with a dome 180 metres across, made of 7,850 stars in eight layers, and the sun comes through the gaps in pieces that slide over the walls and the water all afternoon. He called it the rain of light, and it is the reason to arrive while the day is still bright.
Inside, works from different cultures and different centuries sit side by side, so a single room can span several civilisations. Loans from the Musée du Louvre, the Musée d’Orsay and the Centre Pompidou join the museum’s own collection. Allow two or three hours. The galleries close in the early evening, but the dome stays open late, and sitting under it after dark is one of the calmer things to do in the city.
teamLab Phenomena opened in the same district in April 2025, a building of 17,000 square metres made for artworks that the environment itself produces. Spheres of light and darkness answer when you touch them, a void seems to hang in mid-air, and the whole thing is designed so that no two visits come out alike. Entry runs to timed slots, so it is booked ahead.
Two more museums opened at the end of 2025. The Zayed National Museum, under five steel fins shaped after a falcon’s wing, tells the country’s story across six galleries and 300,000 years, with the Abu Dhabi Pearl, one of the oldest natural pearls ever found, pages of the Blue Qur’an and a rebuilt ancient Magan boat. The Natural History Museum covers 13.8 billion years in 35,000 square metres: Stan, a Tyrannosaurus rex 67 million years old, a 25-metre blue whale, the Murchison meteorite, which holds grains older than the solar system, and an extinct elephant found in Abu Dhabi with tusks in both jaws.
The Guggenheim, by Frank Gehry, is due to open on 11 December 2026 with 30 galleries. That will make five museums in the one district.
Two museums make a good day. Leave the rest of it for the mangroves and the beach: Saadiyat’s white sand is on the same island as the galleries.

Opening days and hours, timed-entry slots, which galleries are open, combined museum passes, the Guggenheim's opening arrangements, age rules for children's areas and the Louvre's kayak tours are set by each museum or operator and change. We confirm what applies to your dates in writing before you pay anything.
The dome lets the sun through in pieces, and the pieces drift across the floor all afternoon.
