Yas Island is where Abu Dhabi keeps its noise. It is about half an hour from the city centre and a quarter of an hour from the airport, and it holds four theme parks and a Formula 1 circuit, close enough together to plan several days around.
Ferrari World is the one people have heard of. It sits under an enormous red roof, holds more than 40 attractions and is built around Formula Rossa, a coaster that launches to 240 kilometres an hour in one go, climbs 52 metres and is over in about a minute and a half. Riders wear safety goggles, which tells you most of what you need to know. Smaller riders have their own list of rides, starting from 90 centimetres.
Warner Bros. World is indoors too, which in July matters more than any ride. It is laid out as six lands, Metropolis, Gotham City, Cartoon Junction, Bedrock, Dynamite Gulch and Warner Bros. Plaza, with more than 30 rides between them, and Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, Bugs Bunny, Scooby-Doo and the Flintstones turning up along the way.
Yas Waterworld is the outdoor one: more than 60 rides, slides and other experiences, themed on the old Emirati life of pearl diving, with a fortress for smaller children to take over. Go early in the day, when the ground is still cool enough to walk on.
SeaWorld Yas Island opened in 2023 and is the one built around animals. Eight realms fill five indoor levels, among them an Abu Dhabi Ocean, an Arctic and an Antarctic, and more than a hundred thousand marine animals live between them. The research and rescue centre alongside it takes in marine animals in distress.
The multi-park pass exists for exactly this: two or three parks over a few days, with a slower day between. The mangroves and the beach make the obvious rest day, and Jubail Island, with its boardwalk through the mangroves, sits between Yas and Saadiyat.
Good to know
- Three of the parks are indoors. Put the waterpark on the coolest day you have, and at the start of it.
- Ride heights decide more than ages do. Send us heights and we check each ride.
- On a multi-park pass, children under 12 need an adult with them.
- Opening days and hours vary through the year and between parks. We confirm yours in writing.
- If your dates are near the Grand Prix in early December, book the island early.
Park opening days and hours, ride height limits and closures, which parks a multi-park pass covers and how long it lasts, age rules, and what a hotel or tour package includes are set by the parks or the operator and change. We confirm what applies to your dates in writing before you pay anything.
Three of the four parks have a roof over them, which in this climate is most of the argument.
