Who it suits
Azamara sells the port rather than the ship, and the tagline is the argument: the next big thing is small. The ships stay later than most: late-night calls as a matter of course, and overnight stays at selected ports, so you get a city after dark rather than a city between nine and five. Shore excursions and land programmes are run by locals. Itineraries are curated but left loose enough to change your mind on.
The other half of it is where the ships can go. Four mid-sized hulls will cross an ocean, then turn up a river or a scenic waterway and dock in a harbour the big ships cannot enter at all. That is the whole trade: a smaller ship than the big lines run, and more places you would not otherwise reach.
Book it if you travel to be somewhere. If the days at sea are the point of the holiday, Royal Caribbean or Princess will suit you better.
On board
Boutique-hotel register rather than resort: cotton robes, room service around the clock, a specialty restaurant or two, the line’s own singers and dancers, and the Sanctum Spa for the days you stay aboard.

An evening ashore laid on by Azamara at no extra charge, often in an iconic venue while the ship stays late in port. It runs on voyages of seven nights or more that are not transoceanic or charter sailings.

Almost every sailing starts with a flight, so we book the flights as well and quote both together.
