The home airline: a hub network out of JKIA that runs across Africa first, then Europe, the Gulf and Asia, with Mombasa and the domestic circuit underneath it.

Where they take you from Nairobi

Nairobi is their hub, so this is where the network starts rather than where it carries on. The underlined places have a page here. We plan the trip, not just the flight.

Nairobi is the hub. Each line is a city the airline sells from JKIA on its own network.

Kenya Airways is the home airline and the one this desk tickets most, not out of patriotism but out of arithmetic. Out of JKIA it runs a hub rather than a route: Africa first and by some distance, then Europe, the Gulf and Asia, with Mombasa and the domestic circuit sitting underneath the whole thing.

That combination is why so many of our bookings start here. A journey that lands from London and carries on to the Coast is one airline and one baggage tag. A safari that begins in Kenya and crosses into Tanzania can hold together on a single ticket rather than on hope and a taxi.

It flies as SkyTeam, which matters when the far end of the itinerary is KLM or Air France. The three have worked alongside each other on the European sectors for a long time.

The Pride of Africa is the slogan, and a slogan proves nothing. The reason it sits at the top of most of our quotes is duller than that: it goes to more of the places our travellers are actually going, from the airport they are already standing in.

Where we use it

These sectors turn up most often in the journeys we build. Each destination page has the rest of the trip on it.

Questions people put to us about this airline

Baggage, alliances and how the ticket actually gets issued. The answers come from what the airline itself publishes, and we confirm what applies to your own fare before you pay.

What baggage allowance comes with a Kenya Airways ticket?

Kenya Airways publishes its allowance by routing and cabin rather than as one figure. Between African points, and between Africa and Europe, America, the Middle East or Asia, Economy carries two pieces of up to 23kg each and Business two of up to 32kg. Domestic flights and the Nairobi to Mumbai sector carry one. No single piece may exceed 158cm for length plus width plus height. On a safari itinerary the tighter number is usually the light aircraft after JKIA rather than the international leg, so we check both together before you pack.

Does SkyTeam or Asante Rewards change anything?

Kenya Airways has flown as SkyTeam since 2007 and is the alliance’s only African member, so a card from KLM, Air France or another SkyTeam airline can credit on this ticket. Its own programme is Asante Rewards. Whichever you hold, the number belongs on the booking before we issue rather than after.

How does a Kenya Airways ticket get issued here?

Send the route and the rough dates. We come back with options, the fare rules in writing, and the domestic or regional sectors on the same ticket where that is possible, because a through-journey behaves differently from two bookings that have never met. The ticket is issued in Nairobi by an IATA-accredited agent, and the consultant who issued it is the one you message when a leg moves. How ticketing works here has the rest.

However this journey is routed, the ticket is issued in Nairobi by an IATA-accredited agent: est. 1994, two offices you can walk into, and a person who answers when a connection drops at six in the morning. How ticketing works here (what happens after you ask, and the questions people put to us before they commit) is set out in full on the flights page.
