Overview
Most Kenya itineraries pair two places that do the same thing twice. This one does not. The first half is the Maasai Mara at its most conventional: game drives from a camp inside the reserve, three a day if you want them. The second half is Laikipia, where the Governors' Camp Collection's Mugie House lets you off the vehicle.
At Mugie you walk, you ride an e-bike, you track lion on foot with a guide, you canoe. The wildlife is the same size; you are just no longer behind glass.
Where you'll stay
Either of the Collection's two camps inside the Maasai Mara National Reserve, with up to three game drives on a full day.
The Collection's house on the Mugie Conservancy in Laikipia. Guided bush walks, e-bikes, lion tracking, canoeing and bush meals, plus visits to the anti-poaching team and the conservancy headquarters.
Day by day
A proposal, not a timetable. The routing, timings and inclusions are confirmed in writing before you pay anything.
Day 1Flight
Met at Jomo Kenyatta and driven across to Wilson for the Governors' Aviation flight, about forty-five minutes to the Mara. The run from the airstrip to camp is a game drive in itself.

Day 2
Up to three game drives inside the reserve. The balloon goes up at dawn and is booked separately at extra cost, worth deciding before you travel rather than the night before.

Day 3
The same pattern and different ground. Whatever you missed yesterday is generally today's job.

Day 4Flight
The Governors' Aviation flight from the Mara to the Mugie Conservancy, then a game drive of roughly twenty-five minutes from the airstrip to the house. The country changes completely on the way in.

Day 5
A guided bush walk, or an e-bike, or lion tracking with the conservancy's team. Sundowners and a bush meal to finish, which at Mugie is a proper part of the day rather than a photograph.

Day 6
Time with the anti-poaching team and at the conservancy headquarters, and the canoes if the day suits. This is the part of the trip people talk about afterwards.
