The shape of the journey

Angama prices by the night rather than by the itinerary, so a honeymoon here is a stay you shape rather than a route you follow. Four nights, two properties to choose between, and the fourth night free when you book three.

At Angama Mara it is the escarpment, a thousand feet above the Maasai Mara, with the Out of Africa kopje for a private picnic, sundowners on the saddle from the film poster, and a Maasai blessing ceremony that the team clearly enjoys as much as the couple does. At Angama Amboseli it is the mountain: Kilimanjaro filling one wall of the suite, a private sundowner, and dinner laid out wherever you would rather have it.

Both include a private vehicle for the whole stay, which is what stops a honeymoon safari being a shared bench with four strangers on it.

Tented suites on the Great Rift Valley wall with the Mara a thousand feet below, a beading studio, a shamba, and the kopje where the Out of Africa picnic is laid out.

Angama Amboseli

Guest suites in the Kimana Sanctuary with floor-to-ceiling screened doors facing Kilimanjaro, an outdoor shower, and the super-tusker elephants that Amboseli is known for.

How the days run

Arrive
Into your suite, and the view does the rest, either the Mara falling away below the escarpment or Kilimanjaro across the Kimana Sanctuary. An afternoon drive if there is light, in your own vehicle, at your own pace.

Day 2
Your own vehicle, your own hours
Sunrise to sunset, there is no fixed time to go out. Take breakfast or lunch with you and eat it somewhere with nobody else in it. In the Mara that means the Triangle and the escarpment; in Amboseli, the super-tuskers and the swamps.

Day 3
A picnic, or a blessing
At Angama Mara: the picnic on the crest of the Out of Africa kopje, with blankets, safari chairs, sparkling wine on ice, and a Maasai naturalist who walks you up and then leaves you to it. The Maasai blessing runs at the kopje, the boma or the shamba. At Amboseli, the private sundowner takes its place.

Slowly
A massage on your own deck, dinner somewhere the team sets up specially, and an hour with the photographer if you want the trip on record. Nothing on this day has to happen.
