Classic Mara Safari
Three nights in the Maasai Mara with the Governors' Camp Collection, flown in on Governors' Aviation. One camp, up to three game drives a day, and nothing else on the diary.
View itineraryOverview
Angama Mara was built on the escarpment where a good deal of Out of Africa was filmed, which is either the reason you are interested or entirely beside the point. Either way the lodge leans into it without embarrassing itself: a copy of the book in every tent, a red rose that is the only flower in the building, and a picnic laid out on the kopje with the Mara a thousand feet below.
Angama prices by the night rather than the itinerary, so this is five nights shaped around what you want to do. The package Angama attaches to it is their Signature Stay: a balloon flight, a private safari vehicle throughout, an in-tent massage each and an hour with the photographic studio, all in the nightly rate.
Where you'll stay
Two small camps of tented suites on the Great Rift Valley wall, a thousand feet above the Mara Triangle. Floor-to-ceiling glass, a deck with rocking chairs, a beading studio, a shamba and a photographic studio.
Day by day
A proposal, not a timetable. The routing, timings and inclusions are confirmed in writing before you pay anything.
Day 1
Up the valley wall to the lodge, where the front of the suite is glass and the Mara Triangle runs out below it. An afternoon drive in your own vehicle, then dinner and the first proper look at the sky here.

Day 2
Up before light, and off the escarpment in a balloon as the sun comes over the Loita hills. Back for the rest of the morning, and a drive in the afternoon when the light turns again.

Day 3
A Maasai naturalist walks you up to the crest of the Out of Africa kopje, where the picnic is already set: blankets, cushions, safari chairs, a wicker basket, sparkling wine on ice. Then you are left alone with it. The photographic studio will come up and record it if you want.

Day 4
A full day in the Triangle with your own vehicle and no fixed hours. The evening is on the saddle between the hills, the spot the film's poster was shot on, with director's chairs, a laden table, a dress-up box, and champagne on ice.

Day 5
A last drive, an in-tent massage, and dinner in the Map Room set the way it would have been then: white linen, candles, white roses, the score playing quietly. If you are marking something, the team will tell the story of it over cognac by the fire, which was Blixen's habit.

Day 6
Breakfast on the deck, the photographs to take home, and a departure timed to your flight.
