Overview

The shape of the journey

The Governors' Camp Collection has three properties in three different parts of Kenya, and this is the itinerary that uses all of them. Lake Naivasha in the Rift Valley, the Mugie Conservancy up on the Laikipia plateau, and the Maasai Mara at the end.

It is the longest of their itineraries and the least repetitive, because each leg asks something different of you: a lake, a walking conservancy, and then the reserve.

Where you'll stay

The camps and hotels

Loldia House

The Collection's farmhouse in the Great Rift Valley, on Lake Naivasha, with boat safaris and game drives from the door.

Governors' Mugie House

The Collection's house on the Mugie Conservancy in Laikipia, where the activities are guided bush walks, e-bikes, lion tracking, canoeing and bush meals.

Governors' Camp or Governors' Il Moran Camp

Either of the Collection's two camps inside the Maasai Mara National Reserve, with up to three game drives on a full day.

Day by day

How the days run

A proposal, not a timetable. The routing, timings and inclusions are confirmed in writing before you pay anything.

  1. Day 1

    Nairobi to Lake Naivasha

Met at Jomo Kenyatta and driven up the Rift Valley escarpment to Loldia House. Tea on the lawn, and the lake beyond it.

    Loldia HouseAll meals

  2. Day 2

Naivasha, on the water and off it

A boat safari among the hippos and fish eagles, and a game drive from the house. An easy first full day, on purpose.

    Loldia HouseAll meals

  3. Day 3

    North to Mugie

On to the Mugie Conservancy in Laikipia. The leg runs either as a scenic drive or as a direct Governors' Aviation flight. Tell us which you would rather and we will build the day around it.

  4. Day 4

    Laikipia on foot

A guided bush walk, or an e-bike, or lion tracking with the conservancy's team. Sundowners and a bush meal to close it.

    Governors' Mugie HouseAll meals

  5. Day 5

    Mugie, and the canoes

Another day of Mugie's own activity list, canoeing included. Three nights here is what makes the conservancy worth flying to rather than passing through.

  6. Day 6Flight

    Fly to the Maasai Mara

The Governors' Aviation flight south-west to the Mara. You are in camp for lunch, and the afternoon game drive is the introduction.

  7. Day 7

A full day in the reserve

Up to three game drives, all of them inside the reserve. The balloon is a dawn departure at extra cost, booked ahead.

Governors' Camp or Governors' Il Moran CampAll meals

  8. Day 8

    The Mara, again

Out early, back through the heat, out again as the light drops. After Naivasha and Laikipia, the Mara reads as the loudest place on the trip.

Governors' Camp or Governors' Il Moran CampAll meals

  9. Day 9Flight

    A last drive, then home

An early game drive, breakfast in camp, and the flight back to Nairobi for your onward connection.
