The shape of the journey

Four days is enough for a first safari with children, as long as you don't spend two of them in a car. This one flies both ways and never changes camp, so the whole trip happens inside one conservancy.

Hemingways runs Ol Seki as a family camp rather than a camp that tolerates families. The tents take everyone, the guiding is pitched at the youngest person in the vehicle, and the day has gaps in it.

How the days run

A proposal, not a timetable. The routing, timings and inclusions are confirmed in writing before you pay anything.

Bush flight to Naboisho
A short flight puts you on an airstrip in the conservancy, and the road part of the journey never happens. Lunch first, then an afternoon game drive with a checklist the children fill in themselves. Dinner is by the fire, and the sky does the rest.

Day 2
Tracking, then a Maasai village
The morning is spent following whatever moved in the night. Later you visit a Maasai village for beadwork and warrior games, and eat lunch out in the bush. The afternoon is a supervised treasure hunt, then sunset drinks and a lantern-lit dinner with marshmallows at the end of it.

Day 3
Junior rangers
A guided walk at sunrise, while it is still cool enough to enjoy it. Bushcraft after that: tracking, bow-making, working out which animal left what. The afternoon drive goes looking for the big cats, and dinner is by candlelight.

A last drive, then home
One more game drive, or breakfast on the veranda and nothing at all. Both are fine. Then the flight back to Nairobi and your onward connection.
