Doha is the other Gulf answer, and on a fair number of itineraries it is the better one. The Nairobi link is long established, the onward network reaches six continents, and the choice between this and Emirates usually comes down to where you are going after the Gulf rather than to anything about the airlines themselves.
It is also the one people ask for by name when the flying matters as much as the trip. We are not going to describe a seat we have not sold you: what is fitted on a given routing is not always what is in the photograph. What we will do is find out which cabin is actually on yours and tell you before you pay for it, which is a duller promise and a more useful one.
It flies as oneworld, so it sits comfortably beside British Airways in a journey that has to touch both.
For anything long, ask us to price Doha against Dubai on the same dates. They rarely come out the same, and the difference is not always the one you were expecting.
Questions people put to us about this airline
Baggage, alliances and how the ticket actually gets issued. The answers come from what the airline itself publishes, and we confirm what applies to your own fare before you pay.
What baggage allowance comes with a Qatar Airways ticket from Nairobi?
Qatar Airways publishes checked allowance by route and class of travel rather than as one number, and says the pieces and weight for your journey are shown when you select the flight and again on the ticket. The limits that do not move are the ones worth knowing: no single checked bag over 32kg, and in Economy one cabin bag up to 7kg at 50 by 37 by 25cm, against two pieces totalling 15kg in Business and First. We read the allowance off the fare we are quoting and put it in writing with the price.
Does oneworld or Privilege Club change anything on this ticket?
Qatar Airways flies as oneworld, so a card from another oneworld airline can credit here, and at the right tier it can carry its own baggage and lounge benefits onto the booking. The airline’s own programme is Privilege Club. Whichever you hold, give us the number before we issue: adding it afterwards is usually possible but slower, and tier benefits are cleanest when the number was on the booking from the start.
How does a Qatar Airways ticket get issued here?
You send the route and the rough dates, we price Doha against the other Gulf routing on the same days, and the fare with its rules comes back to you in writing before anything is paid. The ticket is issued in Nairobi on the airline’s own stock by an IATA-accredited agent, so it behaves exactly as one bought from the airline does. After that the desk holds it: a schedule change, a date that has to move, a reissue at six in the morning. How ticketing works here has the rest.

However this journey is routed, the ticket is issued in Nairobi by an IATA-accredited agent: est. 1994, two offices you can walk into, and a person who answers when a connection drops at six in the morning. How ticketing works here (what happens after you ask, and the questions people put to us before they commit) is set out in full on the flights page.
