Overview
Six days is not long, so this one does not waste any of them on the road. You fly straight north to Sasaab, charter across to Solio, and fly back to Nairobi for the giraffes. Three landscapes that look nothing alike, on three short hops.
It is the itinerary The Safari Collection built for people with a week and no more, and it holds up equally well as a first safari, a honeymoon, or the tail end of a work trip you extended.
Where you'll stay
A luxury tented camp above the Ewaso Nyiro in Westgate Community Conservancy. Explore by vehicle, on foot, by quad bike or on a camel, and fly-camp under the stars if you book it ahead.
The only lodge on a 19,000-acre conservancy between Mount Kenya and the Aberdares, holding large numbers of black and white rhino alongside lion, leopard and buffalo.
The house where a herd of endangered Nubian giraffe come to the veranda at teatime and to the bedroom windows and the breakfast table at dawn.
The wellness house next door, with spa rooms, gym, hot tub, sauna and an infinity pool over the giraffe sanctuary, taken as a day room on departure day.
Day by day
A proposal, not a timetable. The routing, timings and inclusions are confirmed in writing before you pay anything.
Day 1Flight
Met at Jomo Kenyatta, transferred to Wilson, and an hour in the air to Samburu. Your guide meets the plane and you are at Sasaab for lunch.
SasaabAll meals
Day 2
Day and night game drives for the Samburu Special Five: reticulated giraffe, Grevy's zebra, Somali ostrich, Beisa oryx and gerenuk. Nature walks, camels and quad bikes fill the gaps, and there is a spa if none of that appeals.
SasaabAll meals
Day 3Flight
Twenty minutes from Sasaab's airstrip and the country changes completely: green, high and cool at night, with Mount Kenya on one side and the Aberdares on the other.
Solio LodgeAll meals
Day 4
Because Solio is the only lodge on the conservancy, game drives are quiet and unhurried, and the rhino sightings are the reason people come back. Afternoons are for walking, riding, cycling, the sauna, or the rhino orphanage nearby.

Day 5Flight
A flight to Wilson after breakfast, then out to Giraffe Manor for lunch. The giraffes come to the veranda at teatime, and to the windows if you leave them open.

Day 6
Breakfast with a long neck over your shoulder, then a walk across the lawn to The Retreat for a day room with spa, sauna, gym and the infinity pool, before the transfer to Jomo Kenyatta.
