Overview

The shape of the journey

The difference here is not the properties, which appear on several of The Safari Collection's itineraries. It is that nothing on this one is shared. Private charter flights between every camp, a game-drive vehicle held for your party alone, private transfers, and camps small enough that a handful of rooms is the whole guest list.

You choose how it opens: three nights at Solio, where the rhino numbers are the draw, or three at Sasaab in the Samburu north, where the plunge pools and the quad bikes are. Both fly on to Sala's Camp for four nights in the Mara, and both end at Giraffe Manor. Because the days are yours to set, the shape below is a starting point rather than a schedule.

The camps and hotels

Solio Lodge

The only lodge on Solio's rhino sanctuary, so the game driving is genuinely yours. Rooftop seating on the vehicle, nature walks, cycling, riding, and in-room spa treatments.

Sasaab

The alternative opening. Suites with private plunge pools above the Ewaso Nyiro, the Samburu Special Five on the drives, quad bikes up the dry riverbeds, camels and community visits.

Sala's Camp

Every room has a riverside deck and a private plunge pool with views across the border into Tanzania. Private dining, yoga on the deck, and your own vehicle for the drives.

Giraffe Manor

The last night, and the giraffes. Afternoon tea at five on the front lawn, a final sundowner on the front deck, and breakfast at the windows in the morning.

The wellness house next door, taken as a day room on departure day, with an infinity pool over the giraffe sanctuary and an airport transfer timed to your flight.

Collected at Jomo Kenyatta and taken to Wilson, twenty to forty minutes depending on the traffic, for your private charter. An hour in the air to Solio or to Sasaab, watching the country change on the way.

Your own vehicle, your own pace
At Solio: rhino on the open grassland, viewed from the vehicle's rooftop seating, with the conservancy effectively to yourself. At Sasaab: the Special Five, wilderness breakfasts and panoramic sundowners.

Beyond the game drives
Nature walks, cycling and riding at Solio, or camels, quad bikes and community visits at Sasaab. Both have in-room spa treatments and a private helicopter available for a day out into Kenya's remote north.

Private charter to the Maasai Mara
A relaxed breakfast, then your charter leaves at ten and lands at Keekorok at eleven. A game drive on the way to camp, and lunch outside when you arrive.

First light
Awake at dawn and out into the reserve for the best of the game viewing: elephant, lion, hippo, and whatever the guides have been tracking. Bush breakfast out there rather than back at camp.

A day you write yourself
With a vehicle to yourself the day has no fixed shape: a picnic lunch deep in the reserve, an afternoon back at the plunge pool, sunset drinks wherever the guide thinks the light will be.

The riverside deck
Another full day if you want one, or private dining and yoga on your own deck with Tanzania on the far bank. The animals cross the riverbank in front of camp on their own schedule.

Back to Nairobi
A last early drive or a slow breakfast, then Keekorok at eleven and Wilson at noon on your charter. Lunch on the terrace at Giraffe Manor, afternoon tea with the giraffes at five, and a final sundowner on the front deck.

Breakfast shared with the resident herd, check-out at ten, then a short walk across the lawn to The Retreat for a day room, with spa, gym, pool and lunch, and the transfer to Jomo Kenyatta.
